about

Music I made for Shrine to The Other Woman by K Walker, "a self-reflective ode to their past encounters, past sexual relationships and gender identity.

Walker has been aware of their role as ‘the other woman’. Their ways of gender presenting has proven turbulent, finding their use of femininity both freeing yet damning to a degree. Walker found that they subconsciously began catering towards sexual intimacy with ‘heterosexual’ men. This included adjusting their physical presence and adhering to certain rules and requests upon meetings despite not wanting to always do so. Such as keeping their long hair, wearing makeup, shaving all of their body hair and embodying a submissive demeanour. The requests were obvious ways which Walker could be fetishised and deemed to be a woman in the eyes of these men.

Walker engaged in the acts despite knowing they were being fetishised, finding it polarising in the way presenting as feminine created gender euphoria for themselves, yet meant the attraction from others were all of this demoralising degree. Craving intimacy and seemingly low on options, Walker abided, contributing to the assumed destruction of the relationships these strangers had - the husbands with wives, the boyfriends with girlfriends. As well as tainting their own self worth and queer identity in the process, which they are still trying to recondition now in the present. Arguably. this is a common specifically for AMAB femme-presenting individuals in the search for sexual partners and intimacy.

‘The Other Woman’ has also remained a self-imposed title for Walker whilst exploring modern liberal sexual relationships and popular sought-after non-monogamy in current queer culture."
